I love smoothies. A LOT.
Maybe it’s because I adore ice cream. Maybe it’s because I love a meal that tastes delicious and is 100% clean. Maybe it’s because they’re full of vitamins and minerals, and they keep me unbelievably full well into the afternoon.
Whatever it is, I love ’em. Because of this, I’ve been perfecting my smoothie technique for years. I’ve been getting a lot of smoothie related inquires lately, so I thought I’d share my tried-and-true technique with you. I call this my ‘standard smoothie’– it is so versatile and tastes like a thick, creamy milkshake. If you’re squeemish about greens in your smoothie, this is the recipe for you. You truly, honestly, and completely cannot taste the greens. At all. It is a fantastic way to sneak extra greens into your diet.
You’re gonna need:
1 cup frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, mango, pineapple- whatever!)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
Splash of vanilla extract
2 big handfuls of greens (spinach, kale, swiss chard)
1/2 c unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 c water
This likely goes without saying, but you’ll need a blender for this. First, add your frozen fruit.
Now add your protein powder and vanilla.
Throw in your greens. Your blender should be pretty full!
Pour in your water and almond milk. I prefer a thick smoothie, but if you’d like yours runnier, be sure to add extra fluid.
Blend away! I alternate between the ‘ice crush’ and ‘frappe’ settings, but every blender is different.
Now, if at some point your blender seems stuck, and your smoothie looks like this, fear not!
If this happens to you, grab a wooden spoon and push the top layer down.
Now, your end result will look something like this..
Thick, creamy, and totally satisfying. Happy blending!
P.S.–If you’re looking for a greener smoothie, I’ll be sharing my favourite one with you in the next few days. Stay tuned!
